From Flat to Flight is not your everyday paper-elephant-coming-to-life-stop-motion-animation film. It’s also a sample of the stunning and playful papercrafts created all the time by the passionate people at the Portland, Oregon, agency, Curiosity Group. Much more than pretty pictures assuming dimension, Curiosity’s papercrafts help brands tell their stories in a truly tangible way that lives on even after the computer’s turned off—ever more important as “experiences” increasingly live online. From Disney to Nickelodeon; HP to SEGA, we’ve created easy-to-craft printables that give consumers something they can feel.

And Curiosity helps much more concrete material take flight as well. We write extensively on digital photography and small business printing, translating heaps of technical specs into engaging articles, demos, and videos to help consumers see the relevance of products to their everyday lives. We also do work to help educators connect with parents, parents connect with children, and everyone connect with their own creativity and inspiration.

We felt that there was no better way to express Curiosity’s rare blend of intellectual rigor and playful imagination than a stop-motion animation, a project that takes planning, patience, dedication, creativity, strategy, engineering, and a dusting of magic to come into being.

talk demonic
Talkdemonic, a local Portland band, allowed us to use two of their songs to create the final score, and we added sound effects with Garage Band. The Portland, Oregon duo of Kevin O'Connor and Lisa Molinaro have been playing together since 2003; she plays the viola and cello, while he plays everything else, including, but not limited to: drums, synths, and acoustic instruments.
